SEOUL -- The unification ministry on Tuesday assessed North Korea as leaving room for "communication," referring to a recent statement by the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un over South Korea's alleged drone incursions.

■ Labor ministry vows stern measures against Coupang over alleged violations of weekly holiday pay
SEOUL -- The labor ministry on Tuesday vowed to take stern action against online retailer Coupang Inc. amid allegations the company violated workplace laws on paid weekly holidays.
In a press release, the ministry said that even if workers were hired on a temporary basis, they should be regarded as regular employees if their employment status has continued without interruption.

SEOUL -- The chairman of private equity firm MBK Partners, Kim Byung-ju, and three other senior executives appeared at a Seoul court Tuesday to attend a hearing on their potential arrest over sales of short-term bonds of troubled retailer Homeplus Co.
Kim arrived at the Seoul Central District Court after prosecutors sought arrest warrants for Kim and the executives, including a co-chief executive of Homeplus, on charges of fraud and violation of the Capital Markets Act.

■ (LEAD) Seoul shares end at another record high, just shy of 4,700
SEOUL -- South Korean stocks ended almost 1.5 percent higher at another record milestone Tuesday, inching closer to the 4,700-point mark Tuesday as defense and auto shares offset declines in semiconductor stocks. The Korean won fell to a three-week low against the U.S. dollar.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 67.85 points, or 1.47 percent, to finish at 4,692.64, extending its winning streak to eight sessions.
