April fools’ day deals are no joke — free drinks, half-price burgers and quirky bites

April Fool's is no joke to retailers — or is it? This year, companies are introducing a series of limited-edition, creative seasonal products to attract fun-loving consumers, or “fun-sumers.”
Businesses from theme parks to retail chains, such as Burger King, Starbucks, and Gongcha, are teasing the release of this year's foolproof, surprise events.
Seoulland, a theme park in Gyeonggi, offers visitors the chance to fool the theme park by using tickets from other theme parks to enter for free.
Visitors can earn free entry by presenting an annual pass from Everland or Lotte World, two other theme parks in Korea, and by lying, “I am a Seoulland annual pass holder” at the gates.
“We planned the event to feel more interactive for customers, a shift from a traditional spring park outing,” said an industry representative.
Burger King launched a discount program advertised by a tongue-in-cheek poster that informs customers they can purchase its Whopper burgers for almost half off until Friday as part of the burger chain’s annual April Fool's Day discount.
“We are in so much trouble... we need to sell all this as soon as possible. Come to Burger King now,” reads the poster.
Starbucks Korea is re-releasing its chai tea latte, discontinued in 2024, for a limited time from Wednesday to April 14. The advertisement jokingly labels it as a "prank-like return."
The first 30 customers who order the drink in person will receive a free tall-size chai tea latte on Wednesday, according to Starbucks Korea.
Dookki Tteokbokki, an all-you-can-eat tteokbokki (spicy chewy rice cakes) restaurant chain, is releasing a limited pink tteokbokki menu in collaboration with popular cartoon character Zanmang Loopy. The limited menu will feature a vibrant pink cream sauce to match the character's color.
Bubble tea chain Gongcha Korea is releasing “Pearl-gonzola Pizza,” a gorgonzola pizza topped with tapioca pearls from bubble tea instead of honey. The menu offers a combination of savory cheese and sweet pearl taste, according to the company. The company released “Pearl-bokki” last April Fool’s, replacing tteok (chewy rice cakes) in tteokbokki with large, chewy tapioca pearls used in bubble tea, coated in a sweet-and-spicy tteokbokki sauce.
