LG Group said on Thursday that Koo presided over a meeting held on Wednesday in Seoul, attended by around 40 chief executive officers (CEOs) and top executives from major afifliates.
Koo compared the impact of AI-driven industrial change to the introduction of electricity and the internet. He called for clear decision-making by CEOs and business leaders, along with swift and decisive execution.
“AI is not just a tool for improving efficiency and productivity,” Koo said. “As the market demands fundamental transformation to prepare for a new era, how we respond to this change will determine the future of our company.”
He also noted that “the most important factor is speed.”
“Rather than perfect plans, fast execution is needed,” he said. “Even small initiatives should be implemented quickly to accumulate and expand results. AX is not a task for a specific organization – it must be led directly by CEOs and business leaders.”
The meeting was organized to explore strategic solutions for building a resilience against external shocks, as uncertainties such as the Middle East conflict and global supply chain restructuring have become constant factors in the business environment.
LG executives agreed that overcoming unpredictable future market conditions requires more than incremental efficiency improvements, calling instead for company-wide structural innovation.
They also agreed to accelerate AX-driven transformation through clearly defined goals led by top management and swift execution.
To reinforce execution capabilities, Koo structured the meeting itself as an “AX execution site.” During breakout discussions, executives used LG’s AI model, EXAONE, to analyze discussion context in real time and extract and summarize key points.
Meanwhile, LG Corp. held a board meeting on Thursday and completed its transition to an “independent director chair system” by appointing outside directors as board chairs across major affiliates.
All 11 listed companies - including LG, LG Electronics Inc., LG Display Co., LG Innotek Co., LG Chem Ltd., and LG Energy Solution Ltd. - have adopted this governance structure.
Koo stepped down as chairman of LG’s board after serving in the role for about 8 years since being appointed chairman and CEO at an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting in June 2018.
The board approved the appointment of Park Jong-su, a professor at Korea University Law School, as the new board chair.
